This is a desktop running Windows 10, version , with an AOC monitor. I'm trying to update a generic Windows driver from with a manufacturer's driver from , but Windows keeps telling me that the best driver is already installed.
In the Driver tab, only the "Driver Details" button is active; the others, including "Update Driver", are grayed out. When I select "Update Driver", a window opens offering the choice between searching automatically for updated driver software, or browsing my computer. When I select browsing, navigate to the folder where I've downloaded and extracted the driver file for this monitor from the AOC website, and select "Next", a window opens telling me that "The best drivers for your device are already installed", with the options to either search for updated drivers on Windows Update, or close.
My Windows 10 is fully up-to-date. I have a hard time believing that a generic Windows driver from is better than a manufacturer's driver from , but can't find any way to install the AOC driver. I though about deleting the monitor. This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. Updating drivers from the Device Manager only queries WIndows Update drivers which doesn't have all of them and will often exclude one you've supplied as it scans WUD, finds no newer and then posts the misleading message that the newest is installed. It often isn't. As with Version Updates the way to install it is to bypass Windows Updates and Device Manager altogether to install it from it's own installation file you download and extract.
In addition, remember too that the operative driver for display is rarely monitor but almost always the Display adapter driver. Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes.
